Equinox 2007 Radio Swap

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

I don't know if a lot of Equinox owners do this mod, but I want to change the headunit in mine to get the bluetooth and Ipod control. I'm looking for an aftermarket unit, but not decided if I take it normal or double din. Is that a big job to remove the radio? Do I need some special adapters for the wires?

If some of you have pictures of the install that you can post it will be much appreciated!

thanks

I dont own an equinox but when you come to put in an aftermarket deck you will need a harness kit which just plugs into your old harness then to the new one and sometimes you need a new antenna jack so that it can plug into the new deck. For the decks i have pulled out in friends trucks and cars which all of them have been chevy and gmc they are pretty easy to get out. And depending on which head unit you go with you might need a dash kit. All of those arnt to terribly priced and its something you can do in your driveway in a couple hours with some beers.

Yes I've done that in my old Nissan, but I don't know if the harness and dash kit will be more expensive on the Equinox than my Sentra? It was 20$ for each.

Its something to price out and see what best buy, future shop, and visions all those electronic stores would have for ya. Its weird it seems to vary depending on your year and model. For my silverado its close $300 for a dash kit, harness and antenna jack. thats why i never upgraded the head unit but instead i did the speakers. I did some of my friends cars for them and all that was dirt cheap and my 1998 gmc i had it was like just over $100.

A dude at the best buy in Sherbrooke told me that it is 150$ for the harness?? Are they crazy?? I think I will keep the OEM headunit and burn MP3 cds...

Do some of you ever worked with under seats subwoofer ? I try to find some price about that or reviews but they are hard to find from Canada or USA. And I don't know how it will act with the snow ?
