Ambient Tepm Sensor

my outside temp reads fine when ia driving but when i stop it reads hotter any idea why? i replaced the ambient sensor that didnt help?

Where is the sensor located, and is it insulated from engine heat? The engine block will heat up to 250 degrees+ with the ignition off due to to the loss of the engine-driven cooling fan. This is a natural process, and with some cars, an aux fan will continue to run after the ignition is shut off. Sounds like this is a non-problem...

yes your sensor is perfectly fine, I had a '03 silverado and it used to do the same thing when standing with the engine running I remember that it was like 98 deg outside and the temp in the mirror said 128 deg but I knew it was due to the truck not moving and the heat from the engine compartment was causing it to read that much hotter
