Looking At Buying 89' Gmc For First Truck, Have A Few Questions&#3

I am looking at buying this truck, it has been for sale for a while now, its only a few miles away from me. Some one told me it was a diesel which I thought was strange but the guy who told me knows his trucks so Idk. Its an 89' GMC Sierra stepside. It needs some brake work and some other minor stuff. Is this a diesel or just runs off pump gas?? Would you reccomend it for a first truck. Thanks and any help is appreicted.

get a pic of motor ill tell you what it is.I would jump all over it i love flarsides especially post 95.I personally never seen a flarisde with a diesel unless someone swapped it.looks nice.

I was at a gas station next to a guy who was filling up a 1500 from about the same year. I noticed he was filling it up with diesel and I asked if he did a conversion to make it a diesel. He said that it was a factory non-turbo diesel. He said that it was the best truck he ever owned. He said that it averaged 18 mpg and would get over 20 on the highway.

never said they didnt make them.i just never came across one.if it is a 6.2L non turbo diesel get it they sound badass with straights

The engine code is the 8th character in the VIN number (visible through the window on the driver dash). If it is a "C" or a "J", then it is a 6.2l diesel. I have found that on these trucks, if it is a diesel, they placed two large air opening holes in the front bumper, but my research is limited.

If you have a stepside, regular cab 4x4 facotry diesel thats a very rare truck. Ive seen quite a few 1500 extended cab 4x4 with the 6.5 but never a stepside shortie with one. Cool truck anyways, love the GMT400 stepsides.
