Looking for help here guys thanks. I have read all the forums regarding this fuel gauge concern, so I'm looking for some final advice before I spend a stupid amount of money on a new pump/sending unit.

My gauge reads empty and fuel light is on constantly, only after a fill up will it read properly but only momentarily. I have no codes, but when I use the clear code function the gauge corrects itself again just for a few seconds.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

What has been the most successful fix for this. I do have minimal skills and tools, is there something I can do in my home garage?

Cheers!

Time for a fuel level sensor. Clearing the dtc will reset the pcm counts for the sensor but that is just a temp fix, as you've found.

Not super hard to do but if you've never done one, you might want to employ some help to get it done. Tank has to be dropped or the bed has to come up. Either way if you live in a salt state, the bolts can fight you and you will need a fuel line quick disconnect tool to get the fuel lines off the sending unit.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am in SoCal so no salt/corrosion issues and the bed has been off within that last couple of years for bodywork. I have read that some guys slide the bed back a few feet to gain access. Do you think this would be easier than dropping the tank?

Again, thank you for the help.

I always just drop the tank but I am always doing them on a hoist with a proper jack to lower the tank so, I may be biased.

Most guys just lift the driver's side of the bed up and block it, from what I've seen. That way, you shouldn't be too far out of adjustment when lining your body lines back up after you sit the box back down on the frame.
