Loading Bike(sportbikes) Into The Bed Of The 2500hd.

Hello all,

This is a question for the 2500 owners out there who load/haul motorcycles in the bed of their truck. I am looking to purchase a folding ramp to load both a dirt bike(KTM 450SXF) and also a couple of sportbikes(CBR1000RR & SV1000S). It would seem to me because of the tall tailgate height of these trucks the longer the better would be a necessity and am also thinking that the arched version would also be a necessity to load the sportbike..?

Can anyone who uses a ramp to load a sportbike in the back of their 2500HD's please give me some input/feedback on which brand of ramp works well for them? I see Moose Racing offers a curved model that measures 12"W X 90"L and Fly Racing offers a curved model as well that measures 11.25"W X 88"L. Are these lengths sufficient or should I be looking elsewhere/for something different?

I have never loaded a bike into a p/u bed before, I have always trailered the machine(s).

Thanks much,

-John

+1 on the big ones from Discount Ramps. They are longer for a better angle and you can hook them together for a wider ramp you an put your feet down on if you have to for balance going slow. This picture shows one of the ramps folded in half in my Avalanche which also had a high tailgate.

I have one of the ramps from Moose that I use for my Husky WR125. I also use it for my 620 Ducati, but the truck needs to be just a little lower than the surface you have the bike on. For example, I loaded it up from a Steak & Shake parking lot, but I had the truck backed up to the 3" curb and loaded the bike from there. If I try to load it from flat ground, the pipes that hang under will drag.

BTW, my truck is an 05' Silvy 4-WD.

I use the metal ramps that you can get at Lowes http://www.lowes.com/pd_317082-287-R301_0_...s&facetInfo=. Nothing special or name brand and fairly inexpensive. Plus it has the straps on them for me to hook to the receiver to prevent them from slipping off the tailgate and doing any damage to my truck. My boys race motocross so I am loading bikes in and out of it basically every weekend if I am not taking the toyhauler. I've also used them to load my quad into the back of the HD. Granted I drive my quad up the ramps but with the bikes I have to put some a$$ behind it. Hauling bikes you may want to take a look at the "Bed Buddy" also at http://www.discountramps.com/bed-buddy.htm which will help add strength to the front of the bed and offer better tie down angles for the bikes. Just a thought for something to look into if you already haven't.

um if you can work a drill, build your own..you go to a hardware store and buy the brackets that are screwed to the ends of a couple of 2x12s and bam you got ramps for around 10-12 bucks..crazy

These are the ones I use to load my atv into my 2500hd. And we also use them to load my brothers dirt bikes in the bed too. Used to have the dual fold (folded in half for better storage). But after so long, they started to feel like they were getting weaker and had more play in them. The cross bars are grooved, so its not bad walking up and down them in rain.
