Onstar My Link And Remote Start Add.

My truck did not come with remote start. If I add a GM remote start system do you know if that feature will work with the onstar my link app?

The onstar app only works for some 2010 models and all 2011 forward models, doesn't work on anything older than 2010.

So if you are asking about the 2007 In your profile the answer is no.

If you are asking about the 2011. It has seemed to work for some and not for others. Most likely a dealer programming issue on the ones that say it doesn't work.

I found out that as long as you have the Remote Start accommodation package your onstar mylink will work just fine after the install.

That's interesting. I have a 2010 SLT with factory remote start and MyLink is not supported on my truck.

I jusy bought a 2012 sierra 1500 sle. It did not have remote start but i had the dealer add it assuming it would work with the onstar remote link. That is what the dealer says! It does not work and when i contact onstar, they say ithas tobe factory installed and enabled.

Makes no sense to me. Has anyone else been able to add the gm remote start and get it working with the remote link app? Help!!

Please post back if you find anything out, I'm in the same situation, but don't have the remote start yet.

Just read this thread and set it up. Took 10 min.

A little background, I have an '11 Silverado. It didn't have remote start when I bought it but it had the capability so I got the fobs and had the dealership program the truck.

I just downloaded the RemoteLink app to my smart phone. I input the info it requested in the app and the app downloaded the real time stats on my truck. I then went to utilize the remote feature of the app and it prompted me to visit onstar.com/mobile to enable the functions. When you visit the site there is a button at the top of the screen that says ONSTAR SERVICES. By placing the arrow over it a window pops up and under CONNECTIONS you want to click ONSTAR REMOTELINK MOBILE APP. On the page that opens, directly under the pic it says CONNECTIONS on the left and directly to the right it says EXPLORE and MANAGE. Click the MANAGE tab. Then you will see CHANGE REMOTE COMMAND SETTINGS and under it click ENABLE and SAVE CHANGES.

Fired my truck right up. So to summarize... I have a model that supports RemoteLink... I didn't have remote start... I got remote start... I downloaded the app... I started my truck via my smartphone.

When i do this, it does not show remote start icon. How long was it between the time the dealer added the remote start and you downloaded the app?

It might be a case of the dealer not doing something correctly but they say not.

that is correct. when I go to my change remote command settings it does not show the remote start icon as an option to enable. Also when I look at my information for the truck, it says I have the Directions and connections package if that means anything.

I have the same directions and connections plan. I'm not sure if my dealer somehow setup my remote start differently? You wouldn't think that's possible but who knows.

I don't plan on continuing my onstar service after the trial period but I've read about onstar having the ability to retain a data connection with the vehicle. Anyone know, if I don't re-up my service, can I still use the app or will it stop functioning? I guess time will tell but I was wondering if anyone knew already. If it doesn't work I'm going to pull my fuse like others have.

Would you mind giving me the name or phone number of your dealer. They may be able to tell me what they did differently so I can tell my dealer.

I just got my 2012 Silverado with a dealer installed factory remote start programmed in at the dealer. The remote start feature won't come up on the remotelink app. Talked to OnStar twice on this issue. They have told me that it will not work in any vehicle that the remote start is installed at the dealer even if it is GM factory equipment and programming. GM says it's an OnStar problem. OnStar very adamant that the feature only works on remote start systems installed at the factory. We need to get enough people calling and emailing OnStar daily to get them to change their eroneous ways. They charge enough for their "service" that this "free" feature should work without a hitch. My son had an accident with his Traverse where a front wheel and axle were ripped completely off the vehicle. OnStar did not automatically come on. He had to hit the emergency button to get them to respond. I think we are paying for advertising that we don't want instead of service that is usefull.

depending on what year your truck is the app may not work 2010 and above. The app will only work with vehicle with the remote start system already installed of if they have the remote start accommodation package from the factory. LT trim levels and above with out the accommodations package with factory remote start system installed will not be able to use the app to remote start the vehicle.

Today I had my dealer install the remote start to my truck, it came remote start ready. I got the remotes from the dealer and their shop installed it in less than a hour. I had already downloaded the Onstar Remotelink for my Iphone, about 2 weeks ago, and could do anything but start my truck, until today and now I can tell my phone to start the truck and it happens as long as no key or fob is inside the truck.:jester:

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
