Passing Wires Through The Firewall

Does anyone have an opinion on the easiest way to pass wires through the firewall to the battery? I am installing my ham radio into my truck - and really don't want to pull out a drill just yet...

I know my Avalanche came with a pass thru gromment for just such things..

 

 

it's an empty rubber pass thru over by the brake master cylinder pull the plug, run wires thru the plug and then plug it back in, they come out just behind the BCM lower left side under steering column.

I couldn't find any way to run wires thru the wall with out cutting the main rubber boot or drilling a hole. I opted to drill a hole, used a rubber spray coating to take care of the bare metal and then a rubber grommet to protect the wires. I know there are also plugs in the floor of the truck but I wanted to keep the hole as high as possible to help limit the chance of water getting in.

Down by the Drivers left foot is a box with a direct battery feed - 30 amps should be good

We install two way radios for a living and I would suggest running the power wire to the accesory power under the hood. We have had trouble with dealers blaming us tapping into the fuse panel for unrelated problems.

 

What we do is follow the bundle of wires on the drivers side, we use and old antenna whip as a fishtape and tape the wires to it. these new Chevy's have a double sided grommet so it will be thick and hard to get through.
