160 Thermostat??

I have the Hypertech III programer for my 6.0. I have yet to change my thermo down to a 160 one. My local speed-freak shop tells me I should and it will not cause any problemsis telling me no friggin way, bad idea ! Anybody else made this change? Not real sure which way to go!

 

Also, when I run premium fuel I still get a little bit of pinging unles I run a bottle or two of octane boost, will the 160 thermo fix that?

I changed mine over a year ago and no pinging. No engine codes, in fact, no problems at all and the truck runs cooler on hills.

I had a 1996 Jimmy with the PPIII and low temp thermostat. 93 Octane no pingging. The only problem with the 160° stat, is that it takes longer to get heat in the truck. But that is a small drawback.

Running a 160 here w/HPP III and no probs at all.When ever you change the thermo to a 160 your pinging should quit.Also,make sure you re program after installing the thermostat,selecting the 160 thermo installed.....Gun

will a 160 stat be hot enough to warm the cab of a 2500 HD Crew Cab when its zero outside?  

 

It only gets to maybe -15 or so once or twice a year here so as long as its enough cool.

 

I had a 160 in a mid 90s truck and 160 wouldnt do it.  Too small heater core.

 

Looked at 03 8.1, looks like a 5 minute change, and I cant see how you could get water in the power steering fluid like was posted in another thread or am I missing something?

where should you get a 160 degree thermostat and how hard is to change?  what do the trucks normally have stock?
