I realize yours is an old post, but this problem only recently surfaced with my truck. There is no gap in which to slide a hose clamp over. The half-round piece that slides over the hinge is mounted too close to the 'gate to work, at least on my 02 Sierra .

Thanks for the reply TooTall1, but this still doesn't work. Around 1:13 on the video,where you're sliding that clamp under the pivot, I don't have that much of a gap to work with. I've cleaned the area, and poked around with a screwdriver, but the most space I could come up with would only allow a cable of some kind!
