2001 Gmc Yukon 5.3l - Trouble Starting Anytime

Have a 2001 GMC Yukon 5.3L which we've been having problems with it starting. I would have to try and crank her over, stop, turn key back to starting position to re-engage fuel pump and would start either 2nd or 3rd time. Fuel pump went out and replaced. Changed fuel Regulator and fuel filter. Not sure if injectors or what. When it's on it runs fine other than when I jump on the throttle, it does not move as it used to but it does have about 238k miles. I also smell fuel after running it near fuel tank but no leaks what so ever.

My 2000 Silverado 5.3L 114k miles does the same thing, has for many years. Instead of putting extra strain on your starter, try this. Turn key to the ON position for 2 seconds (don't try to start) Turn key off, then back to the on position for 2 more seconds then start the truck OR repeat 1 more time.

If this works every time, which it works on my truck, then from what I've read, it's a leaking check valve that, unfortunatly, is attached to the fuel pump as one unit. Only cure I know of is a new pump. I've been doing this key cycling for atleast 4 years. I'll replace it when the pump dies.

I checked my fuel pressure, and I get a solid 58 psi for only a couple seconds with the key in the on position.

I realize this post is almost 2 months old, but it might help others.
