Need Some Expert Advice

Hey everyone,

Needs some advice/help....my 93 Yukon rear diff is just about ready to implode. Its clanging and slapping and just sounds like some teath have let go or bearings or something. Its been whinning like a banshee for about a year now so I figured it was only a matter of time before it let go. So im looking to replace the gears.

I found a complete rear axle out of a 2001 blazer that has 3:42 gears with posi(which is what my Yukon has...except Yukon has no posi)....will these gears fit right into my diff???

Thanks!!

As long as they are 8.6" diameter gear set, you should be fine. It might be easier to just swap the rear end as long as your front diff gears match the years. Do you know what gears you currently have? If you have a stock vehicle, then the RPO codes should point you in the right direction.

GU6 - 3.42

GT4 - 3.73

GT5 - 4.10

My gears are 3:42. The axle from this blazer wont be a firect fit as it has disc brakes...mine are drum and im sure the shock mounts are different too. I agree an axle swap would be the easiest....just haven't been able to find a used axle yet. How do I know if the gear set is 8.6" in diametre without opening up the diff?

If your going to that much trouble why not just get a new set of gears and bearings? Quit horsing around with another set of wore out stuff. What exactly are you going to save by pulling the gears and bearings from the blazer and putting them in your yukon? Your still going to have to set them up just like you would a new set. You could be getting a bum G80 unit......

Just my opinion.
