Fuel Gauge On Hd2500

Fuel capacity on my Silverado HD2500 Diesel is 34 gal. However when the fuel gauge reads ¼ it will only take around 14 gal. The information display tells me 200 miles traveled and around 100 miles left. This makes no sense as there should be (and I assume is) 20 gal. left in the tank and should be good for close to another 300 miles (at approx 15mpg.) I've never taken the gauge below ¼ tank because I don't ever want to run it close. Anyone else have that problem with this model?

I have the 26 gallon tank and mine read a little under 3/4 full last night and took 9 gallons. These gauges aren't very accurate but yours is the opposite of mine. Are you positive you have the 34 gallon tank? If it is a shortbed it is only 26 gallons.

i have 2001 8.1-- a real gas hog. Fuel guage slowly sinks as miles are driven, but once it hits 1/3 tank, it drops like a rock. ouch! must be a fuel float thing or an odd shaped tank.
