2000 Sierra Gear Swap

So to make a long story short, I have 4.10's in my front diff and a 3.73 rear end, I was wondering if anybody knew if I could fit the crown and pinion gears from a 4.10 rear end into the 3.73 housing to match my ratios back up. Anybody done this before?

Came with 4.10's stock, blew my rear end and put a 3.73 in to get me through the summer because I didn't need 4WD. I'd like to fix that before the winter though haha.

You didn't happen to put a replacement 14 bolt in did you? If you have a good salvage yard thats what I'd put back there.

Mis-matched gears are a no-no. So don't dump it in 4wd......... But at least its the front will be dragging the rear.... instead of the rear pushing the front......

 

And 4.11's should be no problem in the rear diff..... if you have 3.73's you should have the right carrier.

Yeah that's why I want to get the gears matched back up before winter, because at this point I definitely don't want to use the 4WD the way it is. I was tempted to just switch out the front diff to match the 3.73's in the rear, but I have a 6" lift with 35's so 4.10's are the better option I think. The crown and pinion gears from the rear end I blew are still good, so I figured I'd just send it to a gear shop and let them switch the gears out, definitely don't want to do it myself with the shimming required.

Not a good idea to put used gears in a diff. Hard to set-up and they may not wear in correctly. They are already worn in for your old diff. You'd be far safer buying a new ring & pinion and getting someone that knows how to set it up right.
