Brake Conversion

I own a 2005 silverado 1500 4x4 with 17 inch wheels and want to change to 16 inch wheels. I was wondering if I could put the calipers off of a 2004 on the 2005. The 03 and 04 silverados had 16 inch wheels. I know the caliper is what rubbed when I tried to put a 16 inch wheel on the front.

I dont see why not. I have an 04 suburban and I did the GMT900 brake upgrade due to my 22" rims. Everything bolted right up. You should be able to use the same mounting brackets you have. Just a swap of the caliper and pads. Not 100% sure though. I'd go to a local part store and have them pull the parts and do the comparison. Good luck.

I agree, I definitely wouldnt recommend downgrading.

I want to go to a smaller wheel which would give me more tire size options and at a whole lot better price. Im not a big fan of big wheels anyway,

but I have looked at some swamper bogger tires and they aren't offered until you get at least a 37 inch tire. Some tires are as much as $60-$70 per

tire higher just because of 17 inch wheels.

why knock this guy for wanting a smaller brake. im curious about the reverse of his question i want the bigger pbr calipers

Im not knocking him. I was simply giving my advice.

 

As for the PBR kit, I was looking into it. But I couldnt bring myself to pay that much for brakes. I did some research and found that the GMT900's had bigger pistons in the caliper and the rotors were bigger. So I did the upgrade and its truly a night and day difference.

lol sir i hope you dont daily drive it if you're planning on putting boggers on it.... not only do they wear fast but they're designed for one thing... mud... not road friendly by any means, and alot of them are bias ply which means they'll flat spot and shake you to death until they warm up
