permanent fix to gm yolk clunk

i tried this after reading post on another forum. you just use a leaf spring clamp in front of axle not one clunk since doing this mine was clunking bad because i have not greased in 6 months here's the link.http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239570

I re-greased my slip yoke about a year ago, and haven't had the issue since. But I will be getting the materials to do this fix in the future to be ready. Great find. Thanks for sharing.

If you have a GMT-900, do NOT grease the slip-yoke. There is a bulletin out saying to not do this. There is no seal between where the slip-yoke goes into the transfer case and the transfer case fluid. The grease will mix with the transfer case fluid and can cause premature failure.

 

I greased mine for 4 months before the bulletin came out and replaced my fluid as soon as i read it. There was a bunch of sediment that had built up at the transfer case where the grease had mixed. There was a blockage and the fluid barely came out.

 

 

So, if you have been greasing your slip-yoke on your GMT-900, stop and replace your fluid. Try to get GM to replace the slip-yoke or replace it yourself. Mine still clunks but I have accepted it as normal since pretty much all GMT-900's do this.
