engine swap: can a 6.0 replace 5.7? help please

hey im new on here so not sure if anyone has talked bout this yet or not but heres the deal................ I have 2 trucks a 96 gmc 1500 and a 04 2500hd. My 96 engine just blew:( its the 5.7 vortec. So far my options are a new replacement motor for $1900 bucks or have a machiene shop rebuild mine however i want for $2250. my first thought... BUILD IT but then i thought CAN I SWAP A NEWER 6.0 IN IT?!!!!!!! Any and all suggestions welcome THANKS

Yes, you can sway a 5.36.0L into it. It will require more than your $1,900 that the other engine would though. You will need wiring, ECU, and all sensors to run engine. You can probably pull one from a truck with all required components and do the job. It is going to cost quite a bit more though. I am betting a used 6.0L with ECU and harness is close to $3,500- $4,000, USED.

You may want to look at the stock torque numbers between the two engines. Pay attention to the RPM max torque is taken. The lower the RPM, the more useful it is. Have you looked at GMPP crate engine? I am wary of getting a shop to build an engine for me, there is more to it than just buying parts and assembling it. What reputation does that shop have?
