How hard is your engine run?

Do you deny it frequent oil changes?

Do you rev the heck out of it at start up like a rice-boy?

Do you drive it like ya stole it?

 

Be specific....

 

I'm not bad, but it see's 17 miles of High School Commute a day, including a parking lot at a school of 2,000 plus(6th biggest in nation I think, in campus size)

I'ld say the engine in my truck has gotten a pretty good beating. With all the off-roading in the mountains and mudding I did out in Wyoming for the past nine months. Its got to love being back in the city. Oil changes at 3000 almost religously. I always drive it like I stole it, but thats only because I have to. If I didnt I would get ran over by all the other people on the road. I dont rev it up like the riceboys. But, I'll rap her every once in awhile. I just like putting my foot into her and seeing what shes got.

3 oil changes in 15kmiles

 

We're at some where between 15-17k right this minute (I may add, it was soldtous at 0000048 at the beginning of April '02. )

 

We shift at a little past 3k RPM (Some times it'll get up to 4k, depending on the mood).

I change the oil (Mobil 1) about every 4000 miles. I drive it like I stole it, there is no slow driving, I haul ass, plain and simple, keeps me alive here.  And my truck has basically pure city miles on it, harsh summer (115+ degrees) driving, stop and go traffic, etc.  So she gets driven pretty hard.

I run alot of short trips of less than 2 miles on a cold motor.  The truck is used at least 6 days/week and is only at 8400 miles and is about 18 months old.

 

The hardest it was run was on the Interstate pulling the camper.  I held it at low to mid 5K RPM for over 1/2 mile when pulling a long grade (2nd gear over 70 MPH).  That was the first and only time I saw the tranny temp exceed the engine temp...

I pretty much baby the '98. Very rarely exceed the speed limit. The '89 on the other hand spends a lot of time stomping the little rice burners with the fart pipes.

Around here, we are very religious when it comes to maintanence, oil changes on every motor happen when or before they are required, everything gets greased often, things get fixed when they break.

 

That said, we work engines hard.  The truck gets the treatment that kills engines, short trips all day everyday, we average about 60-70 miles a day in the winter, 100+ miles a day in the summer, all in trips of 1-2 miles one way, shut off, 1-2 miles somewhere else, shut off, repeat.  When she pulls, more often than not its more then it really should, but so far it hasn't complained.  

 

So far Chevy gassers have held up well under this, and they better.  If the truck isn't running, its pretty tough to get stuff done.  Its a pretty important tool around here, thats what it is, no more, no less.
