Tire size hypothetical

I currently have the stock Goodyear Forteras 245/70R's on my current 09 Sierra. For my next set of tires I am looking to fill out the fender wells a little better. I am not willing to give up my smooth ride so I will getting another highway tire. I was thinking of moving up to some 245/75R's, which should be a slightly taller tire without making it wider. I guess what I am asking is what size and brand would you guys recommend? I want to keep the smooth ride and mpg's. I was thinking something along the lines of a Nitto Duragrappler @245/75R. What are your thoughts on the subject?

Im running 265/70R-17 on my truck and it fill the wheel wells perfectly.

Yea 265/R70 seem like a logical step up. Playing with the tire calc shows that they would be wider though ( 9.65in. vs 10.43in.). Is it plausible to get a taller tire that isn't wider? I am really wanting to keep my silky smooth ride and mpg's.

 

Edit: 245/R75 puts me very close to the same diameter as a 265/R70. I am thinking this might be my best bet.

265/70-17s will maintain your smooth ride. Just went from them to 275/55-20s, so the difference is fresh in my mind. The ride with the 20s is not what I would call, "rougher", but rather, "more responsive".

Oh, no, definitely not that kind of Ford responsive!! I can't handle continuous, uncontrollable vibration! 20s give a somewhat sharper, quicker kick on a bump, but are still smooth as glass on the freeway. Wheel alignment settings come in to play here, too.

Yea I hear ya. I had already ruled out getting bigger wheels simply because they increase the price of the tire considerably.

Not sure why the adversion to the 20mm increase in width going with the 265/70 but, I run the 245/70 in the winter, and the 265/70 in summer. Both are OEM tires, and no difference in ride is noticable.

Nope. But then again I have a different tune file for the tire size difference as well to correct the speedo/odometer. I think if you did not do that, you would see a difference just due to the speedo/odometer being off.

True. What are the options for making these adjustments? I have been considering getting a Blackbear tune, and trying to decide if its worth it or not.
