Transmission service

dark oil is the fiber material from the clutch discs or bands when the material is gone and piston /servo reaches the end of its travel ,the transmission slips dark cooked oil doesnt hold the tranny together and there is no varnish inside because no combustion ,its hydraulic oil not engine oil which does varnish up after awhile of abuse

Then what was the brown translucent stuff I had to wash off on just about every trans overhaul I did? You do not need combustion to varnish inside the case. Change the fluid when it is like that, and the new trans fluid will disolve that brownish stuff. That brownish stuff gets everywhere inside the case.

I find it hard to believe that you have not seen this happen on transmissions you have over hauled. You have overhauled them, right?

You got me thinking, you are 100% correct you do NOT need combustion for varnish to happen I have rebuilt gear boxes at work and there is varnish inside those as well.
