Squeaking Underneath Truck

I have a 2002 Silverado Z71 Extended Cab

The Current Mileage is 116k

I have recently developed a noise underneath the body almost like bad U joint sound. I took the Driveshaft off and both U Joints where 100% operational. I have a 2 U Joint Alum. Driveshaft going into the back of the 4x4 case.

I was wondering what else could cause that kinda noise and it sounds like its getting worse. This happens going straight turning seems to have no baring on it.

I cant really tell where its coming from , in the cab it almost sounds like its either directly under me or the right wheel well. I've never messed with the front drive shaft because I'm a big guy and its really hard to get too.

My truck has had a number of squeaks-squeals and grinding noise since new.

  • Last issue was U-joints where I would get the noise similar to yours on straights or turning but the noise would go away depending on the amount of torque. Hard on the gas no noise, pulling away easy or just coasting along in gear or in neutral and I would get the squeal.
  • Belt noise and pullies can give you similar noise but it sounds from your post you only get it when moving
  • Also had issues with bearings but that changed when I would be driving straight or in a turn.

Almost sounds like U-joint issues but you have checked them. Something else in the drive train, maybe depending on the noise something in the brakes, warped router (disks in the back I think in the 02s), doesn't sound like the issues but maybe something rubbing under the truck.

Would be interested to hear what the fix is.

Do you have a Hitch Receiver in??? My Grandfather had a little bit of play in his hitch receiver and it would clank will he was going down the road and sounded like it was up under the bed and sometimes under the cab. Just a thought. If this is what is going on, just wrap the receiver with some black electrical tape and it will clear it up.
