Help, broken front wheel stud

Recommended Posts

Posted

I went to rotate my tires today on my '98 Z71 and found a broken wheel stud on the front. I know the rotor is a 'hat' style and I know how to remove it. I need to know how much of a job it is to remove the hub so I can get the stud replaced. Anyone do this? Is the large nut, 35mm socket fits it, all I need to remove to get the hub off? Or should I take it into someone?

TIA

The truck has hubless rotors, so you dont have to take off that axle nut. just take off the caliper bracket and rotor falls off. I suggest taking it to a mechanic if you have never changed one before. its not difficult but it i wouldnt want to you to try it for the first time on your own vehicle :(

if you have to se the stud yourself I  learned a little trick from a mechanic take a handful of washers after you have put the stud through the hole with the rotor on and use a lug nut to pull the stud and set into place. however apply pressure then back off apply andback off or you could  jam all the washers on their and break another stud which leads to mostlikely bloody knuckles and a cursing fit.

Good luck
