Another question-about tweeter repair

Okay, I don't know where I shoulda posted this, but my tweeter fell out of the mount in the door. Both of the little pegs that hold it in there are busted. Do you think superglue would hold it, or is there another way to put in back in? Or should I just toss it and the one on the other side and get some replacements????

For what it takes to get to the tweeter (remove door panel et al), I opted to replace the factory speakers with some Polk Audio units with built-in tweeters.

The factory tweeters are installed with plastic rivets and virtually all of them break loose.  Keep in mind, if you glue them, replacing them later may be problematic.

I just used two small screws and screwed into the plastic part

then put a little black paint/marker on the screw head so you can't see them through the speaker screens.

If you don't want to spend the cash right now on some new tweeters, then I would reinstall the old one with some RTV silicon adhesive.  That way you will be able to cut it loose at a later date if need be, and then just clean up the remaining adheasive with a razor blade.

I just did a similar thing about a month ago. But, I drilled a small hole where the broken off plastic screw was and used small screws with lock washers and nuts. Works great now.

Seems the plastic molded screws GM uses really suck. :)

Wow I was kinda thinking I was the only one that had this problem.  Looked at my grill in the sun one day and there it was a lone speaker hanging by the wire.  Took the panel off and saw how it was mounted, (pretty cheesy if you ask me), then just used two self tapping screws from the opposite side and reattached it.  Painted the screw heads with my daughters black finger nail polish cant even tell now.  Pretty sad waiting for the drivers side to let go now.

I test drove a Yukon a month or so ago, and noticed that the same thing happened to it's driver's side tweeter. Weird. AS hard as I beat my truck when I'm off road, it hasn't popped the driver's side yet and I can't figure that out.......

Wierd!  I actually had to use pliers to get mine off the door when I replaced my speakers with my infinity tweaters.   hehe  I guess they break when you want them to stay on, but are a pain to get off when you want to replace them.  :smash:
