Tarnished Aluminum Rims

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 Silverado CC Classic with the 17" aluminum rims. I have two of them that are tarnished, any suggestions on how to restore the finish?

Pics would help. Alot of times rims are cleared and the clear bubbles up

Probably just the clearcoat coming off. Looks cloudy in places? Common on a lot of alum wheels. Just look around in any parking lot.

Old style wheels tarnished and you had to polish them back out. New ones are clearcoated and basically no maintenance untill the coating gets old and starts peeling. You can have someone refurbish them or remove the coating and polish them to a brilliant shine if you like that look. Then you have to polish them several times a year. Your local body shop or wheel store probably has someone that can do that type of repair. Good luck.

Yeah, tarnish was the wrong word. Clearcoat is not peeling, but seems like its been compromised, allowing stains and discoloration. Thanks for the tips, I will research a local rim shop or possibly try a clear remover.
