Strange shaking at low speeds

I have a 2002 chevy 2500hd 4X4 with the 6.0 and the 4L8E tranny. For some time now, I have noticed that when the engine is left at an idle, is in drive, and is going up a slight grade, the truck has a slow, but noticible shake to it. I'm just wondering if that's just the plates in the converter trying to grab, but can't or if I'm seeing the signes of a potnetial problem... Other than that, there are no vibrations a high speeds, nor are there any unusual noises... Thanks for your help.

I think you are right about the converter.  My truck will do the same thing...

For example: If I am stopped at a red light and there is enough of a grade for the truck to barely creep forward, I feel these small 1/2" to 1" "lurches".  It is not smooth like if you were on level ground and wanted to ease forward by just letting off the brake pedal.

Mine does something similar to that.  If I am just cruising along at normal speed and then come to a hill or if I touch the gas a little, the thing sounds like it is gonna puke.  I was told that it is some kind of kick down in the transmision?  My dodge did the same thing but way worse.  to the point where I wouldn't drive with the windows down because the noise was so disturbing.

Is this "torque management" that we hear so much about?
