No Heat, thought I had it figured....

Hey everybody, went out and started the truck on this cold morning. NO HEAT. The only "response" , when I turn it to "5", I hear a click. I thought it may have been the lower blower motor resistor, so replaced it and nothing. Same click on turning to "#5".

It's a 2001-1500/4.8 with 175k, any ideas what to do next?

It's COLD here, HELP!!

Thanks in advance for the help

my idea is to #1--stop throwing parts at it

#2 --try a battery disconnect and reconnect ,turn key on and let it relearn itself ,,,if that fails

#3---take it in and get it scanned and diagnosed ,,,,,thats it,

I like your #1, I haven't had a truck payment in 8 years and other than some regular maintainance, no big money into. I will try the disconnect in the morning. After driving it, I found out while moving with the fresh air option, the hot air would ooze out. If I changed over to re-circ, the air stopped. If the check engine light is not lit, would a scan still show something?

Sorry if these are dumb questions.

Thanks Again.

Codes for hvac are stored in the body computer. There is no light for those codes.

So will a OBD2 scanner read a code that shows no CEL in our trucks? Just wondering as I never knew that there are codes that do not trigger a CEL.

Thanks,

Lower price ones no. You need one that can read body codes such as SRS and ABS. Even those aren't guaranteed to read them. A Tech 2 will read for sure

Did you get it figured out? If not how about a little more explanation. Don't listen to Rob, he thinks no one should work on their own vehicles :smoker: . I'd rather throw a few parts at it then to have anyone else put their dirty mitts on my truck. Have you at least checked for blown fuses? Is this the first time you've had issues w/ the HVAC system? How's the wiring look going to the resistor? BTW, just messing w/ ya Rob  . I've attached a little info for you....if you need help with it just ask.

I had a 2004 sierra with the same problem. Not sure if the wiring is the same, but if you follow the wiring from the resistor up, there should be a connector. Check the pins to see if they are seated and the wires for damage. The problem with mine was one of the pins wasn't seated (I think it was the ground) and it burned the wire back about 5" spliced in a new one problem solved.

You say "no heat" is it the blender or the fan that's not working? The resistor and the connector can fail. Like the guy above me said check the connector with a test light, I have gone through a lot of these at work and the shop manual tells you to go through steps and testing the connector and resistor are usually the one of 2 culprits good luck post results.

If its the blender the part that actuates it can strip at the door.
