The time has come for the official announcement and the end of redneck racing as we know and love it.  :smash:

FOREIGN OBJECT

NASCAR chairman Bill France Jr. said Monday that he expects an announcement ``probably by the end of the week'' about the involvement of a new manufacturer in one of its three top series.

Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford and Dodge currently race in the sanctioning body's top stock car series, but Toyota, which already is competing in NASCAR's Dash Series, has acknowledged it is working on a truck engine.

NASCAR's rules prohibit foreign cars, but it is expected that the Japanese company, which builds cars in the United States, will make its entry into the truck series official before Sunday's Daytona 500.

France said any company coming into the sport would have to build a version of the V-8 pushrod engine currently in use in NASCAR's top divisions.

I mentioned this earlier in a NASCAR/Toyota post, but I'll say it again.

The traditions in NASCAR are nearly dead. NASCAR's current group of leader/managers, the track owners/promotors, team owners, and manufacturers are after the $$$$ and fame that they can capitalize on right now.

NASCAR(I think) will soon be dead as all the die-hard fans know and love. Once it's turned into a moneybag sport, the popularity will wear off and no one will be left that knows how to return it to its former glory.

We'll all be watching the ASA cars race for wins and enjoyment.

Besides, who's gonna want to see the "NASCAR Stay-Free Maxi-Pad Cup" run the "Kia Sorento 500 at Daytona"?!?!?!?

Exactly, this goes back to my argument over all these rule changes and car bodies. I say run exactly whats on the lot, if ford, chevy, whoever wants to run a taurus or monte carlo, it better be front wheel drive and a V6 and 4 door in fords case. You know this wouldnt go (well I hope not) but what it would do is get us some rear wheel drive V8 cars being produced like the old monte carlo. And it would bring back the TRUE reason for having different manufacturers in Nascar, back when the sport was best, thats the reason drivers and teams switched makes, because they felt chevrolet or ford or etc... had a better handling or better downforce car, and thus this lead to ford, chevrolet or whoever teams were leaving from to go and redesign the car and make it better so that they could get drivers to switch back to whatever make it may be. Thats my opinion as to why it wasnt IROC back then, but its pretty close to IROC now, and Dale Jarrett was still crying about his cars body the other day. Larry Mac said it had to be the 5th spring under the hood LOL!!! Now I am not saying they should run them right off the lot like we buy them, but the format should be the same, V8, 2door, rear wheel drive, etc... And the template they use to check the cars should fit one right out of the showroom EXACLTY the same as the one on the track! And if ford drivers are crying because their car isnt as good, they shouldnt take it up with NASCAR, they should have to take it up with ford. Well Sorry for the long post, just couldnt stop typing my .02!
