OK here's a few photos I took today and tonight.  Most of the northeastern US is getting killed by this monster blizzard.  I've lived in WV all my life and this is the worst winter storm I've seen by far.  This morning at 10am I had about 14" on the back deck-as you can see when I took this picture is was about 20".  Right now it's at 23" and counting-coming down at about 1.5" per hour:

This was my truck when I started shoveling around noon:

My 9 year old boxer.  She's getting a little old and didn't much like the weather!  About 5 minutes was enough for her-a few years ago she would play in it for an hour.  Gues she gets cold faster now.

Tonight after the second time I shoveled:

It's drifting and coming down so hard it's a losing battle to keep shoveling it.

The road I travelled today to my dad's place was about 17 miles and had about 15" of standing snow on it.  The F250 did good-actually it was fun!  Just had to be easy on curves because the snow tries to pull your tires to one side. My dad tried to get out in his 4wd Ranger earlier and couldn't make it up a steep unplowed hill near his house so he turned around.  He said it was too light to get enough traction. No 2wd vehicles where going anywhere today-it was funny seeing all  4wd pickups and SUVs driving around in 1 & 1/2 feet of snow.   The AWD Subarus and Audis etc are useless out there in snow this deep.

The governor declared a state of emergency in WV so I guess the Nat Guard will get to work on the roads now.  The local plow trucks where just overwhelmed and the salt/cinders don't work in snow this deep.

Now get this-they're saying the worst is still to come!! :D Another 12 to 16" forcast for my area by noon tomorrow!! :) Temp is 18 right now with a steady 15 or 20 mph wind blowing up drifts!  I gotta go to work tomorrow so I guess I'll be up early shoveling...again.

I hear ya Hillhound.  Not sure how much we have here, but its got to be around 15" or so.  I've been clearing a path for my truck to get out of our driveway (70 yards long, old brick for the base and at about a 40 degree angle)  I took my girlfriend to work tonight (nurse) because her VW Beetle didnt even think about moving.  I also second what you said about AWD cars.  I saw two Subarus getting suck in the thick drifts.  This snow needs a truck!  :thumb:

I've had a blast out here tonight....cant wait to see what I wake up for.  The last weather forecast projected atleast another 6-8" by morning and another 6" for tomorrow when the storm is over.

Let it snow, let it snow....let it snow!!!   :)  :D

I really need move North a few miles...

Theonly  good thing  about Sleet is it helps the snow stick to the  roads. :D

Which as DW  would say, it makes for some BOOGITY BOOGITY BOOGITY.

I hope the roads are ok tomorrow.  My parents have to travel back to Nicholas Co, WV tomorrow.  They already know the power has been out since around 4 p.m. today.

No way near that much accumulation of snow from Nicholas County to Mercer County, I just travelled it today.  the problem is the ice.  We had about 1/2" to 1" of ice on everything when I got up this morning and it got worse as I travelled south to Mercer County.  We've gotten 2 or 3 more inches in the last few hours here and ice is still pelting down hard.  Everything is closed, and the roads are terrible.

trade ya

42' river crest, and rain still falling

Nah!  I don't mind it-just wish I didn't have to get and go to work in it.  I'd much rather ride my 4 wheeler in it! :thumb:

So far we don't have much ice.  It's been in the teens so it's staying snow so far.  They're calling for maybe freezing rain tomorrow evening and that scares me.  The deep snow I don't mind, it's fun to drive in when there's not alot of traffic around! :)

The wind is sure howling outside.  Every now and then I look out and you can't see 50 yards through all the snow blowing around.  Guess this is the storm I'll tell my grandkids about! :D

We ended up with about 23" including the 5" we got on Saturday. nice snow, now if it will just stay cold enough for the next week or two. This coming Friday we`re suppost to get rain, Maybe flooding rains. :)    lets keep it cold so it will come in the form of another big snow storm. :D

We could use some of that here .

We have had rain almost all winter and only about 6 inches of snow total .

It has been so dry here that we actually had a range fire this weekend

Consider yourself lucky that there will not be a drought in your part of the country this year  :D

Hill, what do you hear about snow fall in Elkins?  I know they usually really get it good.

Actually I wish we'd get some of that - had all of 3 in and that was today!

Here it is solid ice...again.  At least it didn't topple every power line like it did last time.  I still need to upload pics of the Ranger completely incased in ice.

Ahhh... hopefully the snow will end soon here in CT... close to 24 inches, just from this storm, the last storm dumped about 8 inches... make it stop!

Shoveled all day... now I'm spent!

Looks like they were in the 15" to 20" zone.  Elkins is about 1.5 hours south of me and the storm got worse as it moved north.

It's still coming down tonight but just flurries.   The total a few hours ago on my deck was a little over 25".   The town is closed and it looks like a war zone.  Even most of the gas stations are shut down.  Abandoned cars everywhere.  I pulled a stuck Grand Am out of a snow bank near my house today.

When I went down the steep hill beside my house today I was pushing drifted snow so deep it was rolling over my hood and onto the windshield.  :D Had snow packed into the grill and up into the engine bay!  When I came back in I couldn't make it back up the hill though-the Superduty just wouldn't do it going uphill.  Overall though I was real pleased with the F250's performance.  I had to drive alot on unplowed roads with about 20" on them and it just cut right through.  :thumb:

Guess the worst is over but it's gonna take days to get it all cleaned up.  There are snow piles in some of the larger parking lots where they cleaned it up with big front-loaders and it's piled about 20 feet high!

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
