4wheel drive service light

my light just came on while is was plowing in a 99 silverado 1/2 ton....the 4x4 works fine, and the switch lights work....i have the buttons.....does the light come on for low fluid.....i saw that the switch is usually the problem by doing searchs, but my symptoms don't seem to be the same....

any ideas????

Does the light go off when you turn the key off and then back on. If so I'd be willing to bet that you 4wd switch is bad. I've had to replace mine already too.

yeah, i plowed snow for like 8 hours with the light coming on right at the end...i came home to log onto here (saw stuff before about the 4x4) but was confused because it was working....

when i went back outside and started the truck the light was off and everything was fine....guess i'll just pick up a switch...
