Has anyone installed an amp to their factory delco cd player? If so what kind of converter do you suggest and how difficult is it to install?

i hooked a pioneer amp to my delco and put in some pioneer spaekers, and it sounds great, and im not not worried about anyone stealing a delco! i used a line out converter, in connects to the speaker wires coming off of the stereo, and it turns them into RCA jacks to hook up to an amp.

I just added a Kicker amp and 10" sub to my neighbors truck the other day.

There is a line converter that one end plugs into the back of the Delco, and the other end plugs into the vehicles wiring harness. It has line outs (in between the two ends) for any speakers you are amplifying.

It's pretty straightforward and easy. Hardest part is fishing wires through the dash and firewall.

Thanks for the input. Everyone else i talked to told me that it isn't worth the trouble dealing with a converter. They also said that it wouldn't sound as good as an aftermarket deck. I personally like the looks of the delco player.

It may not sound as good as an aftermarket deck, but his truck sounds d@mn nice.

I installed a 4 channel amp, and one 10" sub into an otherwise stock system. 2 channels to the door speakers, and the other 2 to the sub. Stock speakers WILL sound better amplified. But aftermarket speakers would sound even better than that.

It's a huge step up in sound if you are adding a sub. I would add a sub/amp combo first, then replace the door speakers (or dash speakers, depending on what year truck we are talking) and the rear speakers next. If you are then not happy with the sound, then drop the big money for a nice head unit.

Another note. You didn't say what year, model, or options you have on your rig.....But if you have OnStar, an airbag, steering wheel controls, DIC, etc. You have to take into consideration what taking out the factory unit will do to the functionality of the truck.

Like I said. Go with the cheaper options first. You may be happy enough to avoid spending 400 bucks on a head that you don't like as much as that nice, simple (easy to use) stocker Delco that you have in there.

I drive a 98 s-10 x-cab 4x4, just bought it last weekend. The truck is fully loaded but there arn't any wheel controls or onstar. I have 10" x-ploid and two sony 6x9's in boxes. I am thinking of buying a 4 channel and running the sub and 6x9's off the amp.

I'm pretty sure that I am going to leave the stock deck in the truck, however it being a theftlock, if i was to take it out; it won't work again unless i take it to a dealer to get reprogramed right? Thanks for answering all of my questions!
