Catalytic converter shot

What the #### would cause this ?

I had it replaced by the shop that installed it last summer they didn't charge me anything. When they cut it out you could see it was all busted to #### inside.

I thought it was something with the emisions system because it would surge and you would have to get into the throttle for it to move the past few days . oh well glad it was something simple.

Did you put on a aftermarket cat? Or did you stay with a GM?

Mine is going out on my Pontiac Bonnevile and I'm looking for one in the junk yards cause I'm too cheap to put a new one on a 100,000 mile car.......

All GM cars and trucks have a 8 year/100,000 miles warranty for Catalytic converters.

Right now i'm having my S-10 (65,000 miles) service because the Catalytic converter is making noise. All for free...

Just be Happy its not a Dodge. A friend of mine just spent almost $950 to replace his cats on a 99 Ram 1500 with the 5.9. Dodge does not warrant their cats beyond 3years / 36,000, and Dodges are notorious of having their cats go bad.
