For Airbag, BCM, and TCCM codes, a cheap scanner doesnt exist.

A Tech 2 can. Usually if they are cheap, they aren't real Tech 2's. Also part of what costs a lot is the subscription to use the Tech 2

incorrect !!! you can buy one and have it filled with all its programming to work from the dealer for free ,,,,then you can use it till ya puke ,,,,

ya cant program anything without a subscription to GM service info for a crazy monthly fee

once you call a dealer for the cost of a tech2 ,,,you will not buy it ,,its not a DIYer tool

I looked into them and found some in the $1000 range and was told to stay away from them. Even at $700 they are too expensive for the shade tree tech

Tech 2 is obsolete

says who ?,,,

they are still used at the dealer ,,so nice try lol

ok is there any reader that can read the codes so i dont have take to the dealer or sub to?

yes but there is a cost ,,,,buy a 76 nova if ya dont want to go to a garage lol

How about something like a scangauge2? It would read and clear codes, not sure if it will work with the 4wd system.

I dont have 4wd but I have a scangauge 2. As far as I know it only reads p codes

I still work at a dealer and use a tech 2 everyday. Also I have a solus scanner that I rarely use anymore. Needs updated. Might make someone a good cheap scanner.
