Output shaft seal

Good afternoon,

I have a 2007 new body style Silverado 5.3 flex fuel with a leaking front diff output shaft seal on passengers side. I have looked a few online videos of the change and doesn't look too bad. Has anyone done this recently and have any tips or links to good instructional videos? May tackle this weekend, not leaking a lot just a drip here or there on the garage floor but would like to get it fixed. Also are the seals at auto parts stores worth a dam* or should I get an AC Delco seal? Any input appreciated.

Thanks,

Neither is worth a damn ... but I certainly won't install another GM one.

Mine started leaking on the driver's side somewhere between 40k-50k miles 3 years ago. Still haven't fixed it. With mine there's alot of slop, which took out the seal - I suspect a bad bushing or bearing. When people see my low mile truck marking it's territory, I just tell them that's 21st century quality for ya right there.

I still haven't fixed it .. and don't have much desire to either. Approaching 70k now.

I have done many of these, USE THE GM PART FROM THE DEALER!!! I cannot stress how important that is, the aftermarket ones are the previous poor design. GM redesigned them recently and they are far superior. As for the job of doing it, it's not that bad, lots of videos out there. Make sure to replace the bearings if there is excessive slop, a little is normal.

Well that figures. They realize there's a problem, quietly fix it, and announce it to no one - at least none of their customers.

Again ... 21st century manufacturing for ya. :banghead:

Changed it today, piece of cake to do, just put it up on ramps, didn't even have to take passengers tire off. Your right efritz seal is all new and looks a lot better. Bought a new gasket also where assembly meets the differential. All from GM. Seal was $27 and gasket about $15. Left the skid plate off to check for any leaks after driving these next few days. Glad to hopefully have this issue fixed. Used limited slip Valvoline 80W-90 to fill diff back up. Will post part numbers later if any needs them. Easy job to do.
