Exhaust system for 1995

I am in need of a new exhaust from the cat back.  The tailpipes are gone and the muffler is shot.  I don't know much about this, but I like the looks of the split rear exhausts (two pipes exit the straight out the back).

Truck Specs:  1995 Chevy Cheyenne 2500HD (8600 gvw) reg cab long bed with a 350 (not vortech).

Would you go into the muffler shop and see what they can do?

Do I have to put a muffler on, or can I just have them put a split pipe from the cat back?

Last question:  Approximetely how much will this cost?

Thanks

Well it depends on how loud you want it, what kind of muffler you want, and how big of piping you want. Your looking around $70-120 for a good muffler. With materials like tips and the diameter of the piping + labor, it will be around $350-450. If you do not run a muffler its going to be loud an might not pass emissions, and you could lose some low end torque. Hope this helps you :(

I have a 94 otherwise the same truck, I had duals put on from the cat back. They put a Y right behind the cat and 2.5" duals all the way back and out each corner, my tips are 3.5" x24" i think, chrome.  No mufflers. Cost around 180$. Pretty reasonable I think. Its not that loud either, it would be louder if I had went with 2.25" pipe. Its throatier with 2.5". It was actually louder before when I just had the cat and nothing behind it. I think you would pass emissions alright. I didnt really notice any power loss. You might might stainless steel tips though, have to clean the chrome a lot in the winter.

Thanks Alex and Polaris Man.

I think that's about what I want Polaris man.  I'll probably stop by the muffler shop and see if they can put a Y in and put two pipes out the rear with some tips.

Thanks for the help,

Ryan

Well, I had them put duals from the cat back.  2.5" pipes with 3" stainless tips out the rear.  I put a pic in the picture post forum.
