2005 aftermarket radio question

I have 05 silverado and after I installed a aftermarket radio I have found that everything works great except for the fact that I have to have my head light switch on to power it up. If I have the switch on auto it will on work when the headlights are activated. I prob have something wiring incorrectly but I'm not sure. Any input would much appreciated.

Did you use a harness?

 

Sounds like you are pulling power from the wrong wire.

Thank you very much. Yes I bought a nice wiring kit. From what you sent me it looks like I shouldn't have wired in the radio illumination wire. I'll give that a try and let ya know how it works. Thanks again
