Letter From GM

I received a letter from GM stating that they would extend the warranty on my '97 Tahoe to cover windshield wiper motor. The letter stated that they were not recalling the motor just replacing ones that have problems. I believe it covered most of the '97 truck/suv models. If you have already had it replaced they will refund the money.

Any of you '97 owners having problems with you wiper motor?

I have replaced mine in the 92, and I have several friends that have 96-98 model trucks that have needed them.

Who am I kidding, I only have two friends.

Thanks though, I will let them know, so they can get reimbursed. Or at least check into it.

The letter was specific to '97 models. I'm not sure if they have or will expand that to other year models.

I do know a couple of people that have replaced 97 models wiper motors.

Thanks though. Good info.

GM sends those out all the time. They are voluntary campaign's that are generally VIN# specific, or production date specific.  They don't generally cover a whole years worth of actual continuous production but could cover certain batches from certain years that a certain supplier may have supplied GM with that particular Wiper motor part.

Also, they ARE NOT extending your warranty, rather simply covering the cost of replacing this wiper motor without cost to you.  Don't plan on going in with a couple other problems and expecting warranty coverage.

I've got a whole file cabinet full of these sent to me over the past 7-8 years.

Yea it would be nice for them to extend the bumper to bumper. They are extending the warranty on the wiper motor only. I have until Feb. 2004 to replace if I have problems. :thumb:

I got the same letter for my '97.  No probs yet though.  Although, I must say, I am VERY disappointed in the wipers themselves.

Dunno if it is the wipers or the truck, but after about 2 months, my Anco Winter blades decided to stop wiping the area in the line of sight in both the drivers and the passengers side.  Maybe I will have to try Bosch blades.

Anyways...the short answer is no.  :-)

A coworker just got his letter today.

It basically says .....if you have:

1. 97 Blazer or S10 p/u

2. 95,96,97 Astro or C/K Crew cab

3. 94,95,96,97 C/K p/u, Tahoe or Suburban

And have had wiper problems.

It goes on to describe a problem with cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board.

I got the letter and it's a little late. I replaced three wiper control boards in my old 95 Silverado. A co worker has a 98 Tahoe and his is bad but isn't covered by the fix in the letter.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
