5 speed automatic transmission upgrade

I've got to replace the transmission in my 01 GMC Sierra 3500 4wd. The current transmission is a 5 speed automatic Duramax Allison 1000 series but I would like to replace with a 6 speed. Looking for info on what other changes would be needed beyond just purchasing a transmission assembly.
