2014 Sierra 1500 front plate?

I bought a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE. in the back seat on the floor, there was a plastic bag with a front bumper license plate cover for states not requiring a front plate on the vehicle. It covers the area where a front plate would go. My state (Ohio) does require a front plate. So today I got my new plates and when I went to attach the plate the holes don't match up with the holes for the cover that came inside the truck. Also there are no screws to mount the plate? I did notice 2 small divets in the plastic that do match up with the holes in the new plate. So I'm assuming I have to drill holes to mount my plate? Do I buy plate screws or do I need bolts with nuts and washers on the back? I find it hard to believe I have to drill holes in my brand new truck? Anyone have any advice?

I had to drill holes and it came with some Rivets for mounting.

Mine has no rivets to install a plate just a black plastic trim cover that covers the whole plate area like it does not exist.

Can someone tell me if I just screw the plate right to the plastic or do I have to buy some sort of bracket?

Before I purchased the front plate filler, I installed a custom front plate and used the leftover bolts from the front valance I removed. Screwed directly into the plastic,held just fine.

Just curious....Are you being compensated for the advertising? I specifically told my dealer, no emblems, stickers, plate frames, etc...

Absolutely not , that was the next day after I picked it up . I'm running license plates now it's been a couple of weeks . But the dealer treated me so well I had no problem running there colors for a while . There was no games back and fourth I told them what I wanted and they came threw with The truck and numbers I wanted on the deal . So since you mentioned it yes I highly recommend them : )

Take it back to the dealer, and have them install the inserts for the plate screws. Chevy has an actual license plate bracket, GMC does not. Even though when you order one, it mentions license plate bracket (does not exist), or filler panel.

 

I haven't looked close enough at the Chevy front plate bracket to see if it could be fitted to the GMC or not. Your dealer should take care of that for you.

 

I installed the filler plate on mine, but the dealer gave me the inserts for the license plate screws if I decide to put a plate up there. I assumed that the holes for the filler would line up with the plate, and all I would have to do is pop in the inserts, but there is two divots up top, IIRC.

 

Maybe the ones that come without the filler piece already have the inserts for the screws from the factory? But then why would they not also mount the filler on the ones for states that do not require a front plate?

 

Let the dealer worry about it.

The 2 bottom holes existed, the "divets" matched up perfect with the top holes in the plate. I stopped autozone bought some stainless plate screws and ran them in. Perfect fit

I attached my plate to the insert by drilling 2 holes. I sandwiched a gold Harley plate (Ebay) between the insert and a chrome barbed wire frame (O'rielleys) and bolted them together with 44 Mag shell bolts (Pep Boys). I put the insert in the slots and then laid under the truck to install the 2 back screws that secure the insert. i don't have the original screws so I hope what I used will hold till i get the right ones.
