Could use some help.

Ok here it goes; a while back i upgraded the head unit in my truck to the 8" Mylink. In the process i had the company that i purchased the head unit/HMI from flash the unit so it would already accept camera input (every time i put the truck in reverse it pops up to the black screen with lines that move when turning and a bar across it that says "service rear camera system" obviously because there is no camera installed). I was going to purchase a camera from the dealer but they told me it was impossible to add, that the plug in for the radio comes as part of the main dash harness and my truck probably doesn't have it. Well i know that its not impossible to add, there are several companies out there that sell camera kits for these trucks; either for the rearview mirror or the head unit screen. So there has to be a way to easily add in a camera. Im going to post below the camera that i just purchased, it comes with a small harness but thats it. Therefore i was wondering if someone could guide me from there as to what i need to do to wire it in. What wires to tap into, where to tap into them, and how. It would be a really big help, any pictures or info would be awesome.:thumbs::thumbs:

I would contact Camera-source.com and see if they can help you, they are a sponsor on this forum.

They sell a kit for our trucks that plug into the Mylink screen, maybe he can sell you just the harness itself, or maybe you'll have to get his entire kit. See this link:

i actually tried contacting the place that i bought the my link system from because they sell camera kits as well (quite pricey) but they do sell them. With hopes that they would sell me the wiring kit since i have the camera already. They would not respond to my emails after several attempts and a couple weeks. Thats why I'm reaching out on here with hopes that someone has done this and can lend a helping hand.

You don't have a custom shop in town? In Houston there is a shop called Cutten Customs... I have had some work done there as well as just showed up with a "I'm stumped".... and got no charge hands on answers. Sometimes it's better to go face to face somewhere than to www or here. Although there are some big brained motor heads and techno geeks here. Good luck.

yea unfortunately i live in a pretty small town and besides dealerships, we don't have any shops for customizing or anything related.

Well who was that place?

I believe a guy named Chris is the owner of Camera-source.com. I spoke to him a few times by email and he was very helpful (I was trying a custom camera installation project in my wife's van). Since he seems to specialize in the GM stuff too, he can likely help you with the wiring harness. Can't hurt to ask him.
