dash lights inop on 02 youkon when in auto seting

I have a 2002 gmc youkon and when the auto lights are on the dash lights do not work. when you turn the switch on park or on then the lights come on. i looked at the diagram and cant find the problem. any one seen this?

Likely something in the daytime running light circuit. Maybe the sensor for daylight is not working, so the lights stay in daytime running light mode?
