I know someone who switched just to stay away from the Ecoboost so he went with the 6.2 the Chevy had.

I'm sure he is not alone.

I can see how the 6.2 can gain buyers. Very impressive mpg with the hp/torque. I get what ford is doing with the ecoboost, just uncertain of the long term durability and cost of repairs.

Only if they got the AFM bugs finally worked out. I didn't want what Ford was offering, nor did I want another AFM motor like the 5.3 or 6.2. So, I got rid of my 2013 1500 5.3L and got a 2015 2500HD with the 6.0L. I want dependability, longevity, and reliability. Something with a long established track record and easy to find parts for and easy to fix. I have had enough of being the guinea pig for new designs and concepts. Nope. Not anymore. And I still have some of the old Cavalry Sergeant in me. I will tolerate no cylinders slacking off while the others work. No taking government or union sponsored smoke breaks while the other cylinders do the work. Nope, everyone has to pack the gear. I paid for 8 cylinders and I expect them all to work, all the time. And even if it can be tuned out, those goofy components are still in there just waiting to be a problem. Nope, I chose the L96 6.0L. If I want a motor force fed air, I will slap a supercharger up on top of the 6.0L and never look back.
