help.my 2005 suburban is messing with me

hi,,,im bobby k,the trans am reaper,,,i just got a 2005 suburban ltz,,,,she is sweet and smooth,90 thousand on the clock,driven by a school teacher and a engineer....it was well maintained,,,like new underneath...no warning lights on..zero codes are thrown-in 2 high I lose power to the rear wheels,,,,in 4 auto and 4 high and 4 low truck does what it was designed to do,,,,when switching back to 2 high,,,there is no noise,or anything,,,,i can hear the truck doing 4 auto and such,,,,,,so,,,ive lost power to rear wheels in 2 high,,,the truck runs like a dream in 4 auto,,,,,as everyone else I see,,,,chevy has recommended complete transfer case replaced,,,,is it the 4 wheel encoder---is it the clip in the case broken or worn out,,,,im lost and need help please,,,,,ive wanted this truck for years,,,the case has loss zero fluid,,,chevy said shavings in fluid,,,thanx,,,bobby k,the trans am reaper

Sounds like the shift collar is not returning to the position it should be in, could be the encoder motor, or the shift fork slide inside the case. Either way, a new case is not needed, you should be able to either replace the motor or the shift fork slide, which will require dropping and disassembling it.
