Hi I'm new to the forum and had been reading some threads about this... but hasn't got clear how to get the direct wire to my radar detector.

The one I was willing to buy is this cable kit:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0003NN83K/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=

and then i saw some post that you can easily tap into a fuse with something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Radar-Mount-Detector-Fusebox-Circuit/dp/B00UB9W92C/ref=pd_sim_422_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41yhhU6N5ML&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0PPEJH3SVTSTSVP81B4F

But I havent heard which fuse will be the one to tap to make it work only while the key is on ACC.

Is anyone here has tap into a fuse with the items mentioned above?

Thanks for any information!

I would either do the first option to retain the mute button or go with the 2nd and get a second cig lighter so it plugs in so you don't loose the mute button. Just my .02

I like that first option. I wonder if it's the same Nd will work for the belt tonics pro series 500 since they are the same company. Huh.

Also if you have a test light or power probe look for an ignition fuse. And turn the key on see power test light lit up and turn key off to make sure the light goes off. Take that fuse out and add it to your add a circuit and put it back in. Other side will go to the positive side of the wiring. I use add a circuits for all kinds of things.

Thanks for your reply, actually there is only 1 option I'm referring of doing by buying the smartcord which contains the mute option and getting the Direct Wire Radar Detector Fusebox Add a Circuit Kit - Mini Blade to tap into a fuse but I guess I can try what you mentioned with a probe light.

Yeah that will show you the fuse that's powering up with ignition. Sorry just got my truck and haven't figured that out just yet. Hopefully I can do it next weekend myself. Just ordered the parts. Got the Beltronics version with a blue led in it .

I used the Escort smart cord just so I had the mute button and I do not have to reach up. I tapped into the accessories power under the dash on pins 10 & 11. There is another thread about it that shows where it is.

Aslo I mounted the mute button just the side of the steering wheel on the dash so I don't cant see the lights. When ever it detects a signal the yellow light is way to bright for me at night.

The thing with Pin 10 and 11 is that is a big 50 A fuse and its multi position

The one I'm referring to is the black box under the dash mounted to the firewall. There is a thread here about Aux power and it's location. One is the ground and the other is keyed power and all you need is a small female connector.

The smart cord comes with an in line fuse.

I used a power probe. This one showed the fuse was ground as no power going through and then when turned on ignition it powered up. Take that fuse out and install add a circuit and put existing fuse in add a circuit As well and this will give you your power for the wiring.
