allison tranny???

quick question ... could someone explain to me the significance of teh Allison transmission, i was curious what set it apart from the reular transmission. Does it come with all HDs, or is it for heavier towing, or what? ... im a new memeber, and im trying to learn as much about the 2500HD as possible, im purchasing one next summer ... thanks alot guys!!

The Allison is a medium truck transmission. For towing and heavy hauling, it's the best trans a pick-up truck can have. The tow haul mode makes a heavy trailer handle ! It is not the set-up for quick 1/4 miles (so I hear) but it is heavy duty...

The Allision is only available with the 8.1L "Big Block"gas engine and the 6.6L "Duramax" Diesel Engine. It is the only automatic transmission available with these two engines in the 2500HD and 3500 trucks.

 

The Allison 1000 is a 5 speed automatic with higher tourque limits than the 4 speed GM automatics. As installed in the 2500HD and 3500 the Allison 1000 is a great heavy pickup transmission.

 

It has no tendency to overheat.

It shifts smoothly under light loads, and crisply under heavy loads.

It has a tow/haul mode which, among other things, allows the torque converter clutch to lock in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears for better durabilty and control when towing.

It has grade logic which will downshift to help control decent speeds.

It has an externally servicable spin-on filter, for easy routine maintenance
