Readiness Monitors Reset

Recommended Posts

Posted

I got my 2014 sierra out of the shop on Friday and went through emissions testing and failed the test. The attendant told me they probably unhooked battery cables and I would have to wait for the truck to reset the readiness monitors. I rode around about 10 miles and tried it again to only fail it again. Does anyone know how many miles or the specif procedure to reset these things.

You need between 1/4 and 3/4 tank of fuel to start with. Start with a cold soak (cold start). Getting in it hot and driving 10 miles wont do it. Start it and let it idle for about 2 minutes, then take it for a drive. Do 55mph for a few miles if you can on a stretch of road (use cruise). Do a couple 20-55mph runs, a couple with like 1/4 throttle, then one with 1/2-3/4 throttle. Most GM cars/trucks I've driven to set take about 20-30 miles to set. If you know someone with a code reader that can check monitor status, do that before taking it to get inspected, or see if the place you inspected at can check the readiness first. DO NOT hit the clear DTC function at all otherwise it will reset the whole system and you will have to drive it again.

I have driven probably 100 miles since Friday. I guess I will try your procedure first and try it again. Thanks.
