1999 GMC savana transmission and gear selector/odometer issue

The lights on my 3500 gmc savana gear selector/odometer have turned off leaving it black and my transmission wont shift. It will go in reverse, 1st, 2nd, etc. But when you put it in drive it doesn't shift. Any ideas? I would be most appreciative for some help in solving this issue.

Sounds as if your NSBU (neutral start back up) switch on the transmission is done. Its the switch that your cable and lever attach to on the driverside of the transmission. About $35 to replace. And fairly easy.

 

Your shift light indicator is controlled by it. And without it your transmission will not shift.
