newbie - which engine?

Ive searched and found mixed opinions/experiences. I want to do the right thing even BEFORE I buy the truck.

I'm looking at buying a 2000-02 silverado or sierra, reg cab short bed. Here are the options I am considering:

1. Buy a v6 for less $$ and spend the extra $$ on a 5.7 or 6.0 swap (which transmission would I need ?) (with this option, i'm assuming I'd get a warranty on the motor, vs s/c a 5.3 and lose any warranty)

2. Buy a 5.3 and add s/c (will the internals and trans take this kind of power? - what other components besides the obvious plugs/tuning/fuel upgrades would be required?)

(The above 2 options - a GM dealership would probably be doing most of the work.........how much $$$ - ball park figures?)

3. Buy the 5.3 and do all the major bolt ons/tuning and hope its decently quick

I'm not looking to make an all out dragster out of this truck, in fact I'm probably going to focus mainly on susp, appearance and stereo, but I'd like it to be able to push me back into the seat from time to time (read: I'd like more then 300hp :D )

So bottom line, what kind of costs am I looking at to either do a 6.0L swap or s/c a 5.3 --- and which would be the most reasonable route?

Thanks for any help

You can do all but #1 easily.  2 and 3 are cool but the tranny will not hold.

hey a 5.3L stock has 300hp and 330ft-lbs and it will put u in your seat pretty hard and if ur not careful with a super charger it will hurt like Hell when it slams in ur seat. :D
