DIY Liquide Bedliners

Anyone have any experience with DIY liquid bedliners. Are they just another situation of "you get what you pay for" or are they good quality products. I realize it probably varies from company to company. Here are two links to the one's I'm currently looking at:

I just can't justify spending anywhere between $350 and $500 for a Rhino liner. What do you think?

Don't forget - if you have it done by a professional shop most of them have a LIFETIME warranty! I don't know for sure but I doubt the DIY kits do.

IMHO- it's worth the extra $$$ to have a professional do it. :D

BTW- I love mine!

I agree. I get it about the $$$ required up front but I'd rather just spend it once than have to redo it every couple of years because it peeled off or something.

I guess if you only plan to keep your truck for a few years, it might be OK.

I hope to keep mine for a long time so I got the Rhino and paid the $$$. I love it and it is tuff stuff. :D

I know I am not the only one that remembers that old thread!

I haven't a clue. Fill me in.

Ah, the infamous "hootus" thread. Some guy had accidentally gotten some Herculiner onto his "hootus" and he needed some tips on how to get it off. The thread was pages and pages of all sorts of advice, sorry, I don't have it saved.

I think the consensus was that he had to sweat it off, like wrap his "hootus" in plastic and sit in a sauna and eventually it was supposed to come off since the pores in the skin would eventually open up. But I think he went swimming or something and it came off.

I don't know if you really wanted to know that, but you asked. :D

I used the DIY Herculiner. You can put two to three coats on with a gallon. I have a 6 foot bed. Use supplied scotch brite pad, brush and roller.

Wash the bed with "Dawn" to get rid of all the dirt, scotch brite it, then wipe it down with acetone (not supplied), then apply.

I used the one gallon kit. I even saved a bit, for touch ups.

If it gets scratched or something, you simply apply a bit and it's patched.

I have hauled everything from lumber, roto tillers, ramps, etc. I have'nt scratched it yet, and nothing slides on it. I think it works great. Only cost me $80. from K-Mart. It was $100., but I had a 20% off "everything in the store" coupon.

The only drawbacks as I can see.

It does'nt look as good as say a Rhino. The sprayed in's have what looks to me as a "ceramic" look.

And its not as thick. Kinda looks like paint with rubber in it. But, it dries very hard.

And very soon it ends up looking dull. No shine at all.

But the drawbacks are worth it for the price. I think.

This is the second truck I've applied it to and I'd use it again. Just my 2 1/2 cents. Hope this helps. Rich :D:thumbs: Good Luck.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate it. I've still got a couple months to decide (plan on doing something come Sept.)

rrsob, are you saying you liked the look of it better after it looks dull, or when you first put it on with the shine.

I liked it better with the shine. But I don't mind the dull look. I guess if you like the flat black look, you would like it better. I hear it also comes in red and silver or gray now also. They have a website. Just do a search for Herculiner. :D Rich

I just did and found the site, thanks. Aparently they also offer a UV protectant/sealant that they state will bring back the shine.

Anyways thanks for the info. I'll be considering these guys as well now.
