Dual Mufflers

I have a 99 4 Door Tahoe and a single exhaust with single cat. How can I get dual tips? Can I just get a single inlet dual outlet muffler and have the exit pipes go out one on each side? I saw one like this the other night and really liked it. I really don't care about the performance of a true dual muffler system. I want the cat back performance with the dual look. Also who would make a kit to do this? I like the Flowmaster system best so far. Gibson is nice too. In the flowmaster I want the 50 or 70 series. I want a nice low tone but little noise inside at crusing speed. Also what price range amd I looking at? I don't want to go more than say $350. If it is possible.

I'd get a good quality "single in - dual out" muffler, and then take it to the exhaust shop and have them bend you some tubing for the "duals" look. I think the whole deal will only be around $200 or so depending on what muffler you choose, and whether you get any special "tips".

You probably want to go dual in dual out.. because i went single in and dual out and because the 99 Tahoe's stock are dual in single out.. it cost me a little bit more because the muffler shop had to make a Y pipe to convert Dual in to Single in

I was not aware that I was dual in? I will have to check that out. If that is the case then maybe I will go for the true dual. Could I get 2 mufflers to fit? Hmm. I have to check this out. I was quoted $200 over the phone just for the new pipes. Then I need to buy the muffler. But I will shop around.

Well I know mine is.. i went with the flowmaster single in dual out.. and it sounds good.. but also sounds like the air flow is restricted.. given i had to go dual in to single in with a Y pipe which is restricting it. Every truck i have owned has had flowmasters on it.. i Payed 55 for the muffler and then like 179 to install tips and everything would have been like 135 but they had to do the Dual in to single in conversion

Yea well I will have to get a custom pipe for the other side. I only have the regular exhaust now. What series flowmaster you have. I was thinking of the 50. I think 70 would just sound like a stock Dodge muffler. I want some bite but a somewhat quiet interior.

I've got a 2000 Suburban with true duals on it: one pipe from each cat into two separate Flo-Pro mufflers, and then out two tailpipes. I went with a little longer muffler from Flo-Pro in order to keep the interior quieter. This was on the recommendation of the shop I used. I'm very happy with the sound.

Go with the dual in dual out muffler. If you get under you truck to be sure, you'll see 2 pipes coming off the exhaust manifolds with the driver's side coming over to the passenger side running parallel into staggered cats. The cat closest to the muffler is on the other side of a flange that attaches pipe to the muffler. The stock muffler is a 2 in 1 out muffler.

The muffler shops I've visited have said that the duals going in are 2" and recommend a 2" or 2.25" coming out. Find a shop that's willing to put the tailpipes on each side of the truck rather than making a shop do it that's hesitant about it in the first place.

CORRECTION: the cat is closer to the muffler is right at the flange. On the other side is the O2 SENSOR.

If you have a dual in muffler now.... then I would go with a dual in dual out muffler over two seperate mufflers. If you want to go with two seperate mufflers for the true dual thing, then I would highly recommend a crossover tube. A "H" or "X" tube will give you the same advantages as a dual/dual muffler... It's important to balance the exhaust from each bank of the engine (especially with Vortech heads), and true duals (left dump/right dump) will rob performance, and cause a "raspy sound".

Thank you for all the info. Yes I do have the Dual in. I will just get the dual in dual out muffler. And I did find a shop that will custom bend pipe. It will be about $200 for the parts and labor. Not including the muffler. He said he will bend it so that it fits around the spare tire and everything. I figure I will wait until I have the Body lift installed. That way I can have the tips closer to the body and have it look more stock. Again thanks for all the input. After that I will have to let her breath eiser up front to balance it out.
