"Everyone is downsizing these days – even Hummer. But this downsizing may actually increase Hummer sales by up to an estimated 100,000 units annually.

This smaller and less expensive Hummer is actually a derivative of the upcoming Chevrolet Colorado / GMC Canyon mid-size trucks, but in SUV guise and with aggressive and macho Hummer styling.

The 2005 H3 will be powered by a straight six, and will be priced nearly $75,000 less than the H1, and $15,000-$20,000 less than the $50,000 H2. The Shreveport, La.-built H3 should be a bargain at the $30,000-$35,000 range when it arrives at dealerships in late 2004."

So while we were speculating that the I6 wouldn't fit in the GMT-355 platform, GM goes and sticks it in there.

So the question is; why isn't the I6 going to be available in the Colorado and Canyon?

I personally believe that the I-6 will fit in the Canyon & Colorado, but GM has to watch EPA fuel ratings. Remember, GM will sells about 50% more Sonama/ S10's than Dodge will Dakotas (I apologize for the profanity) this year. With the new trucks, that gap should only increase. The I-5 is on par with the competition, horsepower wise, plus increased fuel economy. That way GM can save the I-6 for the H3, further seperating it from the pickups. My 2 cents.

I also believe they are sticking an I5 in the canyons and colarados for a small shock value.

Everyone I know who knows about the I5 is like WTH? Why an I5, but the competition is also looking and asking the same question. I think its sorta a game ploy to make the others rethink their engine game plans and marketing strategies. Now the boys at Ford, and Dodge are wondering how they can market against an engine that puts out similar numbers as their v's but gets way better gas economy...

Or I could be wrong.....................
