2006 sierra 1500 wt

So i bought this 06 sierra 1500 wt with the 7ft stepside box and wondering if i should just weld plates on the frame by the rear crossmember as it rotten out or swap it with a rolling 2500hd frame with also the 7ft box. How hard is it to swap the frame. I heard their almost identical and the cab and box mount are in the same place. I am mechanic incline so i know what im doing but just wanna get more info and see if anyone els had done it. I would like to have a beafer frame for more fun and eventually drop in a 6.0l or hopefully find a rolling frame with a 6.0l. Gonna be looking at scrapyard soon to find a truck that i can crab the eninge and frame and diffs but wont be doing the swap intill summer
